I’m sad I can only be there in spirit but hope it is a celebration of your life as much as an occasion for sorrow at your earthly departure.

We have been friends for over thirty years and the fact that we never argued or fell out even once in all that time is testament to our bond – especially given that we can both be pretty tetchy people!

Your love and compassion for animals and for humans (though I know you sometimes found the latter to be far more difficult beasts) was always wonderful and inspiring to behold.

Your courage in seeking out your birth parents was also highly admirable, and I was so pleased when your life was enriched by what you found out.

Your way of living deeply through your emotions was also something that always struck me about you and very helpful and instructive to someone as emotionally challenged as myself.

I will also never forget how touching it was to me to see your love and concern for all my children.

Last, and by no means least, I will never forget your Beef Wellington – one of the best meals I ever had even though it was around 30 years ago I can still see it and taste it!
